Overnight Northern France, the UK and Belgium were hit by a very unusual snow storm (it never snows in March) that caused mayhem. Plus it was 17°C all month and suddenly -2°C. In Belgium alone, there were 1,600 kilometers of traffic jams this morning. I went out to check it out.
This electronic board at Central Station is usually filled with information about trains coming and going within seconds of each other. This is the busiest station in the country. But today, there are only two trains listed, one is 1h 16 m late and the other is 2h 14m late.
As a yearly birthday present to me, the wild blue hyacinths bloom throughout the Halle forest (south of Brussels) the last two weeks of April. Since the towering beech trees are just getting their leaves, the sunlight shines through the pale green gold of the new leaves and the hyacinths give off an unearthly blue glow. Magical!
As is the local beer available in the cafés on the forest's edge.
