This week is the Matonge - Europe festival. Matonge is a famous neighborhood in Kinshasa and the part of Ixelles which has become the emotional and commercial heart of Brussels' African community has been named after it. It lies right next the European Institutions neighborhood but these are two expat communities that don't mix much. Hence this festival to bridge the gap. Yesterday evening the festival opened with a zany parade through both neighborhoods. Tonight there is a Soukous/Reggae concert, tomorrow a minisoccer tournament and Saturday a Bal Moderne (which is an event during which choreographers teach the crowd some steps and then everyone dances them together).
Notice along the bottom of the photo the photographic frieze that runs along the second step riser of the newly restored St. Boniface Church.
Speaking of photos, my lack of a viewfinder does reduce my photo-taking capabilities.
